The Integrated Design + Education + Arts Studio (IDEAS) was developed as a subsidiary of The Arts Initiative at Virginia Tech which is “a comprehensive, university-wide effort to enhance the presence and practice of the arts at Virginia Tech” working to “lay the path of new ways of collaborating and learning at the infinite intersections between the arts and other disciplines.” The Arts Initiative has plans to include a Center for Creative Technologies in the Arts that will serve to explore the arts and encourage innovative practices in teaching, learning and research.
Through interdisciplinary collaborative discovery, the Center for Creative Technologies in the Arts develops experimental media that use the arts to promote economic development by developing critical and creative thinking skills in P-12 students.
