Ted S. Price

Assistant Professor

Dr. Ted Price is an assistant professor of education specializing in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies. He earned a Ph.D. in Administration, Policy, and Planning from the University of Southern California. To date he has published more than 30 articles and has presented at many national conferences, often serving as keynote speaker or invited presenter.

Dr. Price engages in extensive professional service activities. He has consulted and provided training and professional development seminars for a number of educational organizations, public and private; correctional facilities/organizations; and, social service agencies. He has held leadership positions in a variety of professional organizations, such as the National Evaluation and Technical Assistance Center for the Education of Children & Youth Who Are Neglected, Delinquent, and At Risk (NDTAC) and the National Juvenile Detention Association (NJDA)/Center for Research and Development (CRPD). Finally, Dr. Price has received honors and awards in recognition of his exemplary professional contributions. Dr. Price’s research, teaching, and service contributions enrich the Virginia Tech School of Education community.

Alternative Education, Leadership Preparation & Effectivenes, Urban & Suburban At-risk Students

Dr. Price is a career educator who brings over 40 years experience in a variety of K-12 and higher education settings. An area of expertise includes working with at-risk students in urban and suburban settings due to his experiences as superintendent, principal, teacher, and consultant in educational organizations and programs for traditional, special, correctional, and alternative education students. Publications in Journal of Juvenile Court, Community, and Alternative School Administrators of California and the National Forum of Educational Administration and Supervision Journal meld his practitioner experience in alternative education settings with that of a trained and experienced researcher. His research on alternative education contributes greatly to the field. He currently has an active research agenda in the area of leadership preparation and leader effectiveness for principals and superintendents. Dr. Price’s research and content expertise informs his graduate teaching activities. He has taught courses that cover such topics as administrative leadership, counseling and guidance for the handicapped, career education for the disabled, methods for teacher of the learning handicapped, and positive behavioral planning.
