Areas of Specialization: Qualitative Research Methods and Design, Diversity Issues with a Special Emphasis on Gender
Dr. Burge is engaged in teaching, advising, and research activities focused on enhancing higher education and educational research. Currently, she is developing a qualitative year-long methods sequence and advance specialized qualitative research courses—advising doctoral students and assisting with qualitative research design is also a high priority. Dr. Burge’s current research efforts focus on gender equity in education. Previously, Dr. Burge has been a classroom teacher in junior and senior high school, a head start parent educator and preschool teacher. She is also the founding director of the Women’s Center at Virginia Tech.
