Dear Friends,
Thank you so much for your interest in the Virginia Tech School of Education. While education programs have been at Virginia Tech for almost 35 years, our ‘unit’ has been constituted in different configurations. Like many academic institutions, we have changed titles with the times. We started in the College of Arts and Sciences, then moved to a College of Education, then to the College of Human Resources and Education, and now to the School of Education in the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences. Throughout these changes, however, we have remained true to the tripartite mission of a land-grant university – dedicated to research, teaching and service.
Our current challenge is to become an international leader in education, focusing on Science, Technology, Mathematics, and Leadership – all central programs within the signature that has always been Virginia Tech! While we will continue our excellence in 23 programs, our goal is to emphasize those areas that help the University meet its aspiration to be a top research institution in the world.
Yes, we have set an ambitious agenda. We are hiring faculty, recruiting students, and renovating classroom and research spaces. We are expanding our outreach programs to have high impact in those areas most needed by our K-12 partners. While we have been very careful with our finances, we need your help in bringing our goals to reality. We hope that you will join us in advancing this work.
