Admissions
Master’s of Education in Curriculum and Instruction (MAEd) (Licensure)
To be eligible for regular admission status, applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA (last 60 hours of coursework) and a B.A. Transcript reviews of applicants with Music degrees from other colleges should provide evidence that the programs meet specific content requirements; otherwise, candidates will need to take additional course work as part of the licensure program. Current VT undergraduates without a GPA of 3.0 are not eligible and should not apply to the Graduate School.
Prospective candidates should:
1. Register for and pass the Praxis I and Praxis II tests. Passing scores on both tests are required for admission into the program. Students can pass out of the Praxis I exam with a state-approved SAT or ACT score. Students must pass Praxis II (Music Content Knowledge) prior to student teaching.
2. Register for and pass the Virginia Communication and Literacy Assessment (VCLA).
3. Submit an application to the Graduate School at Virginia Tech.
4. Follow steps outlined in the Checklist for Pre-service teachers.
Virginia Tech students should apply in the fall term of the senior year. If eligible, students may apply for dual status admission during the last semester of their undergraduate coursework, usually the second semester of their senior year.
