The Virginia Tech Counselor Education program was recognized as both the 2009 Southern Association Counselor Education and Supervision (SACES) Outstanding Master's and Doctoral Counselor Education Program Award and the 2009 Association Counselor Education and Supervision (ACES) Robert L. Frank National Outstanding Counselor Education Program Award. Each of these awards is a competitive award for which programs are nominated and evaluated by regional and national colleagues. The VT program was nominated and recognized for outstanding pre-service and in-service training for masters students in their preparation as school counselors and community counselors, and for doctoral students in their preparation as counselor supervisors and educators. At each level, the program was commended for areas of using technology, incorporating multicultural competencies, and evaluation, as well as the involvement in the support process for resiliency following the April 16, 2007 campus tragedy.
