Professional Education-Praxis I & Praxis II:

Professional Teacher's Assessment for Virginia Licensure

One important task you'll need to accomplish before you can be fully licensed to teach in Virginia is to take and "pass" teaching competency tests.  The competency tests used in Virginia have been developed by the Educational Testing Service (ETS) and are known as Praxis I (reading, writing, and mathematics) and Praxis II for the content area you will teach. You may now take each Computerized PPST once per calendar month up to 6 times in a 12-month period.

Students in undergraduate teacher education licensure program, will submit passing scores on Praxis I to the Center for Teacher Education prior to admission to a licensure program. Students in graduate programs should submit passing scores on Praxis I prior to beginning course work in the program but no later than during the first semester of course work. For students entering student teaching in spring 2005, passing Praxis II scores must be submitted before you start your placements.

If you have questions, even when completing your test registration, don't hestitate to contact the Center.
