Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction (MAEd) in Second Language Education
The Masters in Education (MAEd) in second language education consists of 30-45 semester hours of courses that also meet requirements for licensure to teach in Virginia. The program typically requires 15 months of study and field experiences in schools. This Master’s degree may function to prepare teachers for initial licensure, for the addition of a second endorsement in another language, or for professional development for experienced teachers.

Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction (Ph.D., or Ed.D.) in Second Language Education
The doctoral programs in Curriculum and Instruction in second language education are intended to prepare experienced teachers (minimum 3 years) to assume leadership roles in the field of second language education. The program may be an EdD, or a PhD. The plan of study is designed by the advisor and the student in order to meet the student’s needs and future goals.
