Scholarships: Counselor Education
For all of the scholarships listed below, you must submit the School of Education application by March 1, 2008 to 106 War Memorial Hall combined with a financial aid application (Fafsa) to be submitted online to the Financial Aid office for consideration. Both applications are required for consideration! Please submit the on-line application located at: www.fafsa.ed.gov by March 11, 2008 deadline!
Robert and Margaret Hoppock Memorial Scholarship
Description: The Robert and Margaret Hoppock Scholarship, endowed by Dr. and Mrs. Hoppock, is awarded to a student who shows interest in career counseling. Dr. Hoppock was the leading figure in educational and occupational information throughout his career. He and his wife Peg lived in Blacksburg for several summers while he taught classes at Virginia Tech. He was also a consultant for Virginia VIEW, the career information dissemination project housed at Virginia Tech, at its inception more than 20 years ago. Though his career was spent at New York University, he chose to endow his scholarship at Virginia Tech because of his close ties with members of this academic community.
Criteria for selection: Must be a full-time graduate student in Counselor Education with a demonstrated interest in Career Development Through the Life Span. Awardee must demonstrate (1) a commitment to principles of career development, (2) financial need, and (3) satisfactory progress towards a degree. Preference will be given to students with demonstrated experience, leadership, and commitment to the principles of Career Development Through the Lifespan as specified in the bequest.

James D. McComas Endowed Scholarship Fund
This award is for undergraduate and graduate students who are preparing for a profession in teaching or counseling in grades K-12 and have demonstrated financial need. Recipients of this award shall be recommended by the Director of the School of Education or his designee and selected by the University's Scholarship and Financial Aid Committee.
Criteria: Recipients will be chosen on the basis of financial need, special family circumstances or other extenuating factors which would otherwise prevent the student from attending Virginia Tech. Secondary consideration will be given on the basis of scholastic achievement, good character and/or demonstrated leadership potential.

One scholarship for $1000.00 will be awarded.
