Scholarships: Educational Leadership
For all of the scholarships listed below, you must submit the School of Education application by March 1, 2008 to 106 War Memorial Hall combined with a financial aid application (Fafsa) to be submitted online to the Financial Aid office for consideration. Both applications are required for consideration! Please submit the on-line application located at: www.fafsa.ed.gov by March 11, 2008 deadline!
Philip Jones Scholarship – Education Administration in Special Education
Description: The Philip R. Jones Memorial Scholarship is provided through the generosity of Dorothy Jones and family in memory of Dr. Philip R. Jones. Dr. Jones was the founder and director of the Special Education Administration Program from 1977 until his death in 1994. Dr. Jones was nationally recognized as a pioneer in policy development and a leader in advocating for children with disabilities and their families. Students are selected to receive the award based on their demonstrated commitment to the education of children and youth with disabilities, successful scholarship, and advocacy for children with disabilities and their families.
Criteria for selection: Academic merit, demonstrated leadership qualities on behalf of people with disabilities, and financial need, with first consideration given to applications with demonstrated commitment, experience and potential as a leader in the field of special education administration.

McComas-Chambless Scholarship- Ed. Administration and Higher Ed.
Description: Bob and Cheryl Chambless of Munfordville, Kentucky have endowed the McComas-Chambless Scholarship. This scholarship gives preference to the non- traditional female student in Educational Administration. The non-traditional female is defined as an individual who returns to graduate school later in life. Dr. Cheryl Chambless completed her Ph.D. in Educational Administration in 1993 and is now Director for Academic Advising and Retention at Western Kentucky University. While at Virginia Tech, former President James McComas served on Cheryl's dissertation committee. Because of the admiration for Dr. McComas' dedication to educational administration, Bob and Cheryl decided to endow this scholarship.

Wayne M. Worner Scholarship – Ed. Administration
Description: The scholarship is given to an individual who is pursuing a career as a school principal or school superintendent.
Criteria for selection: Recipient must be a graduate student in Virginia Tech's College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences enrolled in a graduate program to prepare public school administrators. Preference will be given to students based upon (1) financial need, (2) academic achievement, and (3) potential to contribute to effective public school improvement.

Ken Underwood Scholarship – Ed. Administration
Description: The scholarship is given to graduate students enrolled in a program to prepare public school administrators.
Criteria for selection: Recipient must be a graduate student in Virginia Tech’s College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences enrolled in a graduate program to prepare public school administrators. Preference will be given to students based upon (1) financial need, (2) academic achievement, and (3) potential to contribute to effective public school improvement.
