Continuous Systematic Program Evaluation

Virginia Tech has CACREP accredited master’s degree programs in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling, and a CACREP accredited doctoral program in Counselors Education ad Supervision. We have master’s degree programs in Roanoke, Virginia, and doctoral degree in Blacksburg, Virginia. Our master’s programs typically admit between 15-20 students per year, which results in small class sizes (typically fewer than 20 students in each class). We also admit between 4-8 doctoral students each year. The Virginia Tech Counselor Education program has been recognized by both the Southern Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (SACES), and the national Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (ACES) as an Outstanding Counselor Education program, and individual students and faculty have been recipients of numerous awards.

In 2015, there were 12 graduates of Virginia Tech’s Clinical Mental Health Counseling master’s program. Of the students admitted, 90% graduate from the program in the expected time period and 95% of those program graduates who sought employment in the counseling field are employed. The Virginia Licensed Professional Counselor exam is the CMHCE exam, and students 100% of students who respond to inquiries pass the LPC exam.

In 2015, there were 13 graduates of Virginia Tech’s School Counseling master’s program. Of the students admitted, 90% graduate from the program in the expected time period and 95% of those program graduates who sought employment in the counseling field are employed. There is no state licensure exam for School Counselors in Virginia.

In 2014-15, there were 5 graduates of Virginia Tech’s Counselor Education and Supervision doctoral degree program. Of the students admitted, 90% graduate from the program in the expected time period (four years) and 100% of those program graduates who sought employment in the counseling field are employed. Most of our doctoral students are licensed when they enter the program.
