  • 2011 Virginia Association of Secondary School Principals  Outstanding Secondary Assistant Principal of the Year: Dr. Sandra R. Brown, Assistant Principal at Frank W. Cox High School, Virginia Beach City Public Schools
  • 2011 Carlie Compter, a student in the Roanoke Principal Preparation Program administered by the School of Education/Educational Leadership and Policy Studies, was selected by the Virginia Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) as its 2011 Virginia Teacher of the Year.
  • 2012 Virginia Superintendent of the Year: Dr. Lorraine Lange, Superintendent Roanoke County, Virginia, Public Schools
  • 2012—Finalist for American Association of School Administrators National Superintendent of the Year: Dr. Lorraine Lange, Superintendent, Roanoke County, Virginia,  Public Schools
  • In March 2014, Steve Staples (EdD) was appointed as the Virginia Superintendent of Public Instruction

At any given time, approximately one-quarter to one-third of the superintendents in Virginia are graduates of the Virginia Tech Educational Leadership Program.
