Timeline:
The main activity for our project is to collect needed school supplies for the children of Iraq. We have two venues for collection. During October 22 to November 5, 2005, Operation: Provide Classroom Comfort will have a display at the Christiansburg, VA Wal-Mart. On the evening of October 27th, at the Boston College/Virginia Tech football game, we will have seven collection sites around the entrances to Lane Stadium. This massive effort from the planning through final delivery is outlined below:
Phase I: Planning logistical support at Lane Stadium and media campaign to promote initiative through University public relations services. This phase includes gaining the support of our many partners, making all of the collection, packaging, and travel arrangements, and creating a pool of volunteers to man the effort. This phase ends the day that the campaign begins at Wal-Mart.
Phase II: Begins with the collection of school supplies at Wal-Mart and the Boston College/Virginia Tech game. It ends with the packaging of all supplies on palettes, and readying the palettes for shipping at our Blacksburg, VA pick-up site.
Phase III: Begins with the link-up with our Spirit of America representative to determine mode of shipment from Blacksburg, VA to a Spirit of America secured warehouse (most likely Atlanta) for transport overseas. Modes of transportation range from FedEx shipment to ocean freighter shipment.
Phase IV: Consists of packages being received in the Iraq theatre by Spirit of America representatives for distribution to local villages by uniform service members and Spirit of America partners.
