Brenda Loyd Outstanding Dissertation 2015 Award

Sept. 1, 2015 – Katina Otey, a recent graduate of the Educational Leadership program, earned the Brenda Loyd Outstanding Dissertation 2015 Award from the Virginia Education Research Association. Dr. Otey’s dissertation on “Perceived Factors that Affect the Performance of Refugee Students in Central Virginia” examined the perceptions of refugee parents and school teachers and administrators. Using a focus group process, perceptions and experiences were gained about refugee students in Central Virginia that will help administrators support this population in their schools. Congratulations Dr. Otey, and advisor Dr. Carol Cash, for this recognition.
