Congratulations to PhD student Ricky Mullins. Ricky recently presented his paper entitled "A Preliminary Quantitative Analysis of the Racial and Gender Makeup of Social Studies Teachers and the "At-Risk" Students They Teach" at the College University and Faculty Assembly of the National Social Studies Conference 96th annual meeting in Washington D.C.

David Hicks, alongside co-authors Stephanie van Hover (UVA), Melissa Lisanti (Radford University), and Colleen Fitzpatrick (UVA), received the 2017 National Technology Leadership Initiative Award for their paper entitled “Shifting the gaze: Using Actor Network Theory to examine preservice teachers’ uses of digital technologies” at the annual conference of the College and University Faculty Assembly of the National Council for the Social Studies.
Congratulations to Daniel Newcomb (Dual MA student in Curriculum and Instruction and History) for his work on The "VPI in World War One" project. The project's website is at http://vpiworldwarone.lib.vt.edu. VPI in World War One is an online project and database dedicated to the lives of of Virginia Polytechnic Institute (today called Virginia Tech) alumni who served in the First World War. A week-long digital exhibit featuring research about these VPI WWI soldiers will be on display in Newman Library during the week of November 7-11, 2016 leading up to Veterans' Day.
Congratulations to doctoral student Ricky D. Mullins! Ricky presented APUSH in the Right Direction: Standards Guide, You Decide! and Graduate Students Are Naturally Engaged, Right? at the Virginia Educational Research Associations’ Conference, which took place September 15-16, 2016 in Charlottesville, Virginia with Erika Nicholas (doctoral student in English Education).
Congratulations to doctoral student Ricky D.Mullins on the publication of his book review entitled “International Perspectives on History Education” in Volume 44, Issue 4 in the College and University Faculty Assembly of the National Council for Social Studies Flagship journal Theory and Research in Social Education. Additionally, his book review of "Empire of Cotton: A Global History" by Sven Beckert has been accepted for publication in the journal Panta Rei at the University of Murcia in Spain and should be in this month's publication of the journal.
